Writing writing writing...We’re proud to announce that Multilingual Mania is offering our very first student writing contest for Hispanic Heritage month for students in grades 3-12. Thanks to a few generous donors, winners will win the following: First prize-$75 Visa gift card; Second place-$50 Visa gift card; and Third place-$25 Visa gift card. The teacher of the first prize winner will also win five biographies about famous Latina/os for their classroom library.

We are accepting essay submissions about a Latina or Latino who has made a significant impact on a society or a student’s life. Submissions will be accepted in either English or Spanish. Essays can be about a famous Latina or Latina, or someone that the student knows personally. Students of all races and ethnicities are encouraged to submit entries.

All submissions must be sent by email to multilingualmania(at)yahoo(dot)com and must include the student’s name, grade and teacher contact information.  Homeschooled students may also participate. (Update: Please note that we will also accept hand written copies by mail or fax. Please email us for contact information).

Submissions will be accepted by email between September 20-October 20th. A committee will choose select entries to be published on Multilingual Mania, and readers will vote on their favorite entries between October 21-28. Winners will be posted online by October 30th and will be notified through the email used for submissions.

Please note that by submitting an essay by email, that students and the students’ parents consent that the essay may possibly be chosen to be published online during the voting process.
